Industrial Strength Worth its Weight in Gold

Batch Industrial Strength Gin awarded DOUBLE GOLD at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition!

What is San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC)?

SFWSC is one of the most influential spirits competitions. It was founded in 2000 as a way to recognise exceptional products in the spirits industry. The 2018 Competition was the biggest in its history featuring more than 2,200 entries. Its medal winners represent some of the best products from around the world.
The Competition’s Executive Director is Anthony Dias Blue, author, editor, publisher, and one of the most influential food, wine, and spirits writers and lifestyle personalities in the U.S.A. Director of Judging is Tony Abou-Ganim, The Master- Mixologist, and one of the leading pioneers of America’s craft cocktail movement.

What’s so great about Double Gold?

The Double Gold designation is awarded to the very few entries that receive Gold medal ratings by all members of the judging panel. These are among the best products in the world. This tremendous recognition follows the success of Batch Signature Gin being crowned the UK’s favourite gin by Craft Gin Club members, in January 2018.

Industrial Strength Gin

Industrial Strength Gin is a playful twist on a Navy gin and a nod to the industrial heritage of our hometown, Burnley. Bottled at 55%, it’s an overproof twist on our Signature recipe.
Head Distiller, Oliver Sanderson, is thrilled with the announcement: “I originally produced Industrial Strength for Batch Innovations members; our monthly spirits subscription club. After surveying our members, we knew Industrial Strength was very good but to achieve Double Gold at San Francisco is an incredible achievement. I’m honoured that our playful and innovative nature is being recognised.”
Industrial Strength, despite its name, can be enjoyed as a g&t. With its sweet lemon notes on the nose and lingering citrus on the palate, Ollie enjoys serving his with a good quality tonic such as Fever-Tree, and prefers to sip it without a garnish. However, the addition of dried apricots and fresh sage leaf garnish also work beautifully. If you’re feeling creative check out this Industri-oil Martini recipe.

We originally produced around 200 bottles of Industrial Strength Gin as a limited edition run for Batch Innovations members, plus select local bars and restaurants. With the news of Double Gold, Industrial Strength Gin is set to make a comeback and will join our core range, which includes Signature and Whinberry gins.

Batch Organic Vodka also received a Silver SFWSC award, and another of the Innovations gins, Buddha’s Hand Gin, walked away with a Bronze at this year’s competition.

The local support we’ve received since launching in 2015 has been tremendous, but we’re elated to be receiving worldwide recognition by some of the best-known industry experts. Director, Phil Whitwell, comments: “Going from distilling in the basement of a house in 2015, to being crowned the UK’s favourite gin and now achieving the success of a SFWSC Double Gold, I am thrilled that people are enjoying our gin as much as we love producing and innovating. 2018 has been an incredible year so far!”
