The return of P&B (Pear and Blackberry Gin!)

You asked for it – and we have delivered! Back in 2022 we asked our gin clubbers what they’d like to see more (and less) of this year and asked them to vote on recipes they would like to see make a return.

With a huge back catalogue of tasty spirits you might agree, we’re spoilt for choice! And with 5 years of club recipes under our belt, each quarter this year will feature a classic ‘bring it back’ recipe, from the past, as voted for by gin club members.

First up for 2023 and we’re super excited to see the return of Pear and Blackberry Gin known fondly in the distillery and office as P&B.

Throwback to 2018

This gin first made an appearance in 2018 – our first year of gins that we call ‘Innovations’. Warming and wintery, it was packed with jammy fruits and finished with a cinnamon syrup. If you weren’t part of the gin club in 2018 you’re in for a real treat (and if you were – wow! You’re a true Batch Innovator – bring on this month’s nostalgia!) and you can even catch up what our gin fans, like Charlie,  thought about the original recipe here

2023

Fast-forward 5 years and this recipe has been tweaked slightly – distilled with more fruits, we’ve taken out the cinnamon from the fruity syrup adding a touch of sweetness to balance those tart blackberries. Pear season is just coming to an end in the UK but we made sure to pack 2023’s recipe with even more of this fruit. With a new distiller at the reigns, we can’t wait to hear what you think about this firm Batch favourite and it’s revamped recipe!

The label artwork

LadyJane has also taken a refresh approach to the Pear and Blackberry Gin label. Seasons play a part in this label and as it’s pear season in the UK, LadyJ decided to make more of a focus on this delicious, crisp fruit. She said “I wanted to give this label a makeover and modernise the design, whilst keeping the same colour palette.”

Pear and Blackberry Gin

This gin is distilled with berries, pear, cinnamon and other warming spices. We then age it with more pear and blackberries. With rich and fruity flavours, Pear and Blackberry Gin is finished with just a touch of our delicious jammy syrup.

It’s Ryan’s first time of taking on the Pear and Blackberry reigns and he said: “Although it was a little nerve wrecking knowing that I was putting my twist on a already popular gin – had a little fear that it may not live up to its first iteration – upon tasting the tweaked recipe, I was ecstatic with the outcome! I am excited to show off the new and improved Pear and Blackberry Gin – it’s  compounded for longer to draw out the fruits and it marginally sweeter. Packed with punchy fruits and the addition of raspberry and apple to bolster the flavours, it still maintains a base of pear and blackberry – that taste you all love and remember!”
