This month’s Innovations Club cocktail is Citra Grapefruit Fizz. Citra hops are often used in sharp craft beers, lending subtle fruity notes which include grapefruit. So when it came to creating a cocktail for August’s Innovations Club release which is distilled with Citra hops, we wanted to bring out those zesty tastes and aromas. This grapefruit and chilli cocktail does just that. And as this years tropical spring slowly turned into weeks of drizzle, this cocktail brings the heat we’re all missing.
You will need:
50ml Citra Botanical Blend
15ml Cointreau
100ml chilli and grapefruit syrup mix (recipe below)
Soda water
Crushed ice
Slice of charred grapefruit to garnish
Method:
Fill a tumbler with crushed ice, pour in your chilli and grapefruit syrup mix, Citra Botanical Blend and cointreau, top up with a splash of soda, and garnish with charred grapefruit.
The chilli and grapefruit syrup mix is simple to make at home.
Chilli and grapefruit syrup (makes enough for for three cocktails)
50g castor sugar
250ml fresh red grapefruit juice
100ml water
1 chilli
To make your syrup mix: Add 50g of castor sugar, 250ml of fresh grapefruit juice, 100ml of water and one chilli sliced in half into a sauce pan. Bring to the boil then simmer for 10 minutes. Leave to cool and strain into a container.
